Things to know:

Step 1:

Start on an easy lock. You want something with a few amount of pins. Your ultimate goal is to raise each pin until it locks in place due to tension.

Step 2:

Place the tension tool at either the top or bottom of the lock and twist in the direction that it opens. I found success by placing the tension tool at the top because it gave me more room to work with below the pins. This varied depending on the lock I was picking though.

Step 3:

Insert your single hook tool and get a feel of how many pins there are. I found that sliding the tool all the way to the back of the plug, raising it to the top, and then dragging it forward helped me find the last pin.

You then want to feel for which pin has the most tension and raise that one. Then look for the next, so on and so forth. Once you get the last pin in its position the tension tool will twist and the lock will open.

The tension is due to binding pins, which are caused by the offset of holes drilled in the lock.
